Rises In Pay Announced (N .Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copy right) LONDON, Sept. 19. Britain’s teachers are to get pay rises ranging from £1 to £6 a week under Govern-ment-allocated salary increases in January, it was announced today. Details of the pay rises were announced by the Ministry of Education. They will cost £42 million a year—£s,soo,ooo less than the increase agreed by the Bumham committee, the teachers’ salary negotiating body. - The Minister of Education (Sir David Eccles) cut the Burnham committee proposals as a result of the “pay pause” announcement by the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Mr Lloyd) to help Britain’s economy.

But in three days, thousands of teachers, angered by the Minister’s action, plan to hold a oneday nation-wide strike in protest at the cut. According to the new rates, non-graduate teachers will get £666 a year at 23 and £940 at 32, representing 5 and 16 per cent, increases. A graduate at 32 will get £ll9O. an increase of £157.
