ROADS BOARD SPENDING
Five-Month Period To August 31 (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Sept. 20. Expenditure by the National Roads Board for the five months ended August 31 last totalled f. 8,727.310. a decrease of £313,976 on the figure for the same period last year. The highest item of expenditure was £2,277,209 for State highways construction, followed by an amount of £1,325,818 for their maintenance.
Advances to counties totalled £3,266.684, compared with £3,561,500 last year, and to borough®, £1,444,259, compared with £1,155,462. Receipts by the board from petrol taxation amounted to £6,811,702, an increase of £806,228 over last year. Mileage tax increased from £246,110 to £276,967. Revenue from registration and licence fees increased from £2,060,712 to £2,295,877, and heavy traffic fees from £1,183.485 to £1,285,703.
