Kelton May Be Hope Of Stable At Orari

“The Press" Special Service

DUNEDIN. Sept SO. A difference in the assessments of the Dunedin and Geraldine handicappen is Likely to influence the Wingatui trainer, D. P. Wilson, in arranging the programme for his team at the week-end. Irrepressible has 8-7 in both the Dunedin Grandstand Handicap and the Geraldine Cup, but Kelton has 8-4 for the Wingatui race and 8-0 for the Geraldine Cup. Mr Wilson said today that he had not finalised arrangements for the movement of his horses, but one of his open handicap horses would race at Geraldine on Monday. Both horses worked exceptionally well this morning in one' of the few gallops on the plough. Kelton (H. J. Powell) was giving Irrepressible (R. J. Pledger) an advantage in the weights, but he responded well to shade his stablemate at the end of six furlongs in Imin ISaec, the last three furlongs in 40 Msec. Kelton won the Dunedin Jockey Club Handicap at Wingatui in December when having his last race for the season. This term he has started four times, the most recent at Ashburton this month, and he should be close to his best. Irrepressible. which is raced by Mrs T. K. S. Sidey, is bracketed with Kumai in the Grandstand Handicap. Kumai is a member of H. A. Anderton's team and is raced by Mr Sidey. No riding engagements have been made for the Wilson horses. One of the best trials on

the inside grass this morning was recorded by Corneil (H. T. Anderton), which ran the opening furlong in 12 4-ssec and completed half a mile in 52sec. Corneil was a wellsupported runner in the Promotion Stakes on the first day, but failed badly and cantered past the post. His connexions were unable to account for his poor showing and in the light ofthat effort he will have to be taken on trust in the Novice Stakes on Saturday.

Matlock (B. E. Kennedy) covered the same ground in 53sec. The Ruthless gelding was a fast-finishing sixth in the Telegraph Handicap on Saturday. He will be better suited by the extra furlong in the Federal Handicap. Marlow (A. J. Tweedie) was five lengths too good for Kurdi (B. E. Kennedy) in 53 2-ssec, the last three furlongs in 40 l-ssec. The Missionary (W. Gye) and Irish Rose (B. J. Anderton) were clear of Jolly Fox (G. Mclntyre) and Mondovi (H. T. Anderton), with Grey Peek (R. J. Skelton) beaten off at the end of six furlongs in Imin ISsec, the last half mile in 53aec. Sizzler (R, O. Calms) and Port Lanyard (Cairns), rival candidates for the Wakari Hurdles, gave sound disnlays in solo runs over four flights of hurdles. After a spell of fine weather the tracks are drying out well and the going.on Saturday could be hard and fast. Additional riders for the meeting are:— N. T. Cowles: Sunny Dorae. B. J. Anderton: Reeco. P. H. Graham: Skip It 1 Oi
