Children Gel Holiday (N. Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Sept. 20. A nation-wide strike of teachers gave more than one million school-children a holiday today. The 26 000 teachers staged the one-day token strike to reinforce their pay claims. More than 1000 schools in England and Wales were closed and classes were not held in about 16,000 others.

The deputy-secretary of the National Association of Schoolmaa ers (Mr Donald Jarmin) claimed almost 100 per cent, support from members.

The “Evening News” said 50.000 London children, about one-eighth of the school roll, stayed away as 37 schools shut Classes were affected in a further 280 schools. In Kent, it was estimated that 30,000 were at home for the day. In Liverpool, nearly 30,000 had the day off.
