Magistrate’s Court Fines For Crossing On Amber Light

Three drivers were convicted by Mr E. A. Lee, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday because they crossed the intersection of Cashel and Colombo streets on the amber light. “It appears these particular lights are the worst in Christchurch for people going against the amber light," said Chief Patrol Officer J. Brown.

After complaints. Traffic Officers S. Blake and E. J. McJarrow were posted at the intersection on the afternoon of Friday, July 7, he said. In each case before the Court the motorists had ample time to stop. The offenders were charged with failing to comply with the traffic lights. They were fined as follows: Alan Basil Kennedy. £3; John David Pask, £2; Ronald Norman Dent, £2. Robert John Btockdill successfully defended his case. When stopped by a traffic officer, James William Keiler said he was unperturbed by the prospect of a fine —he would “get it back on the horses,” said Chief Patrol Officer Brown. Keiler, who did not appear, was fined £8 for failing to comply with the traffic lights at the corner of Bealey avenue and Papanui road.
