ANSWER TO RUSSIA

Flight Over Germany (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Sept. 19. A United States spokesman yesterday denied a Soviet charge that two West German jet fighters deliberately flew across East German territory, the Associated- Press reported. He said the pilots had only made "an honest error.” The incident occurred last Thursday, when two West German FB4’s flew across East German territory and landed at the French-con-trolled airport'in West Berlin. The West German Government apologised to the Soviets, saying the aircraft had strayed over the Communist territory because of technical trouble. The Soviet Note said the flight was “a pre-arranged provocation” to inflame international tension and threatened to shoot down “any violating military fighting aircraft” in the future.
