COCKTAIL PARTY

Power Supply Conference A cockfail party was held in the Winter Garden last evening for delegates to the Electrical Supply Authorities’ Association conference, being held in Christchurch this week. Guests were welcomed by the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning) and Mrs Manning, and Mr W. S. MacGibbon and Mrs Mac Gibbon. About 500 attended. Specially-invited guests included the Christchurch branch chairman of the New Zealand Institution of Engineers (Mr T. N. Stanton) and Mrs Stanton; the Christchurch district electrical engineer of the New Zealand Electricity Department (Mr D. L. Grant) and Mrs Grant; the general manager of the New Zealand Electricity Department (Mr A. E. Davenport), and the chief telegraph engineer (Mr Green). Mrs Manning wore a cobalt blue brocade dress, with a heart-shaped neckline and tiny buttoned yolk. It was teamed with a matching headhugging petal-shaped cocktail hat of velvet, and black accessories.

Mrs Mac Gibbon chose an ensemble of Italian silk, in muted tones of pink, blue and pearl grey. The sheath dress was finished with a tie-belt, and the three-quarter length coat featured a spray of selfroses on the lapel.
