Lilly TENNIS MOVE FOR MEETING TO FILL VACANCIES

(New Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Sept. 19 At least four tennis associations are supporting a move to call a special general meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association to fill the vacancies on the management committee which becomes effective on Friday. A telegram was sent from the Hutt Valley association to Canterbury. Manawatu, Wanganui, Waikato and North Shore asking: "Will you support our move for a special general meeting of the N.Z.L.T.A. re management committee problem. Suggest Thursday, September 28.” Replies in support were re. ceived from Wanganui, Mana, watu and Waikato and the necessary machinery to inform the New Zealand association of this is now under way. It is mandatory for a special meeting to be held if three or more associations combine in requesting it. North Shore replied to Hutt Valley indicating that it had already informed the New Zealand president (Mr A. M.

Hatch, of Canterbury) that it strongly supported the withdrawal of the resignations of Messrs F. S. Ramson. S. Painter and J. D. Vickerman, or, alternatively would support their re-election if a council meeting was held. It is known that this is the attitude that Auckland and Wellington have taken. The four associations calling the meeting do not all agree on September 28 and negotiations are now proceeding among them for a date early in October — October 3 has been suggested. Messrs Ramson. Painter and Vickerman last night disclaimed any knowledge of Auckland reports that a move had been made to persuade them to withdraw their resignations. All three emphasised they knew nothing of alleged reports that the Wellington and Auckland associations were implementing a move to have the three members remain on the management committee.
