ARANUI HIGH SCHOOL

Tenders For New Baths

The Aranui High School Board settled final details of plans and specifications for its new swimming pool last evening with the intention of calling tenders in the next 10 days and closing them in time for consideration at the next meeting.

Work has already begun on the site with the sale of sand at 3d a cubic yard providing excavation without cost. “Good business.” the board said. Permission will be sought to site eight future tennis courts on an acre and a half between the school and Pages road. If this is approved, it would free a section (at present reserved for courts on the other side of the school) for a miniature rifle range, the headmaster (Mr W. J. A. Brittenden) reported Previously it had been proposed to put the range on a section running between houses. “The range is therefore up in the air at the moment.” Mr Brittenden said. The board will continue its protracted representations to the Ministry of Works about the blower heaters in the assembly hall. The main complaint is against the noise of the fans but the board also considers the two heaters inadequate for a hall 110 ft long and 50ft wide. The Education Department will be asked to obtain a full report on the installation.
