Good Run At Wingatui •Tha Press" Special Service DUNEDIN, September 19. Glendale, which will make his first appearance at the Dunedin Jockey Club’s spring meeting in the Salisbury Hack Handicap on Saturday, impressed by the manner in which he worked at Wingatui this morning. Ridden by his race jockey, R. J. Skelton, the Foxshar gelding worked well within himself when he galloped half a mile on the inside grass in 55 2-ssec. the last three furlongs in 41sec. The trials were held under ideal conditions. Glendale will be a well supported runner in the distance event for hacks after his second placing to Golden Howe at Riccarton and his win at the Eastern Southland Hunt meeting at Gore this month. Ranganui (E. J. Didham) covered half a mile in 54sec. The Oman mare is a lightweight candidate for the Grandstand Handicap, but her race form has, not been encouraging since she came to the South< Island.
Runty (B. J. Skelton) and Half Quid iC. Campbell) ran over a mile and a quarter. They increased the pace over the final stages to come home the last three furlongs in 43sec.
Missed Engagement Runty missed his engagement last week because of a wide barrier draw. He will start in the Milburn Handicap, the hack sprint for apprentice riders. Magic Casement (E. J. Didham) ran five furlongs in Imin 9sec, the first two furlongs in 26 3-ssec. The Perilous mare has been off the scene since March. She will resume in the Milburn Handicap.
Zelona (E. J. Didham) and an unnamed Rolled Gold gelding from A. N. Didham’s stable sprinted three furlongs in 40 2-ssec. Zelona, which showed some form last season. is making a fresh start in the Novice Stakes. Astra (B. E. Kennedy) did strong pace work from the mile and a quarter. Bow Tie (R. J. Mackie) joined in at the five furlongs and ran four lengths clear of his compansion in the run home in Imin 9 2-ssec. Thumper and Port Lanyard, which filled the minor placing! in the hurdle race on Saturday, were restricted to strong pace work.
