HURRICANE STRIKES TEXAS.—Overturned cars and trucks are battered by swirling winds and waters from the hurricane, “Carla,” on the seafront at Freeport, Texas. Between 300,000 and 400,000 residents along the Texas and Louisiana coast fled northwards to escape the approaching storm, as the hurricane swirled in from the Gulf of Mexico.
