Tennis Club's Enterprise
The South Christchurch Tennis Club, one at the oldest established in Christchurch, is also one of the most progressive. At the cost of £220. the club has laid a hot mix bitumen surface on one at its courts, and this should prove to be the fastest of its type in Canterbury. "The ultimate atm is to have all four courts covered in this manner," said Mr R. K. Wilson, chib captain. The club also posaeses two flood ht courts, and night tennis, which is proving extremely popular, has been in progress over the last four years. The aim of the club in this respect, is to promote tennis in Canterbury, and after Christmas, non-affiliated businessmen’s clubs are permitted to join. Full use is made of the facilities in the off-season. Table tennis is played both winter and summer in the club pavillion, and the East Christchurch-Shirley Cricket Club has been practising on the courts for the last month. The Canterbury Basketball Association has a lease of the courts during the winter months.
