NEW TRACK AT EPSOM

Favourable Comment

“The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, Sept. 15.

The white crushed-lime, stone surface of the new Alexandra Park race-track, which cost about £25,000, was given an initial test last night by many horses and several leading athletes.

Drivers with experience at Wellington night meetings were unanimous in comparing it with the Hutt Park Raceway, considered by experts to be the best in the Southern Hemisphere.

Officials of the Auckland Amateur Athletic Club with experience of overseas running tracks were loud in their praise. The president of the Auckland Trotting Club (Mr P. R. Bridgens) and mem. bers of the committee ex. pressed delight at the new track and the success of the test, especially the clearer outline of horses along the back.

It was the general opinion that the track would prove in time the fastest yet raced on at Epsom.
