Rangiora Borough Sections
Sir,—Some five years ago the Rangiora Borough Council purchased from the Kinley Estate a half-acre section on Eyre street, opposite Seddon street Recently a very narrow roadway and footpath have been constructed on this section, providing the only legal access to a new subdivision. Would the borough council advise if the person responsible for the subdivision purchased this section from the borough for the access road at a figure representing the ratepayers' expenses (i.e.. cost of section
£5OO at 1956 valuation, plus interest and rates on same for five years, at the very least £700); or has the borough council accepted two quarter-acre sections in lieu of the access roadway section, in addition to the normal sections for recreation purposes, . etc., required by law? If so, is it the intention of the council to sell these sections at the earliest possible moment, thus allow-
ing the money to be spent on the many urgent road and footpath maintenance works for which the money was collected five years ago?—Yours, etc.,
GENERAL MAINTENANCE. September 10, 1961. [The Town Clerk of Rangiora (Mr R Ward' replied: “The council is not prepared to reply to anonymous correspondence on such matters but any information required by ‘General Maintenance' is available on inquiry at the council office.”!
