Between 400.000 and 500.000 acres of plains land in MidCanterbury is to be incorporated in the district of the South Ashburton Rabbit Board, Announcing this yesterday, after a conference in Ashburton. Mr A. Forrester, a member of the Rabbit Des-
truction Council, said that the whole of the South Island, except for a few isolated pockets, was now under rabbit board control. The Ashburton conference was among delegates appointed at six public meetings held recently in the area which has not been under rabbit board control, and representatives of the South Ashburton Board. The conference was held to decide whether the new area should join the South Ashburton board or set up its own board. The South Ashburton board has indicated that the rate on the new area will be 3d an acre.
Four representatives of the new area will join the South Ashburton board. Their names will be submitted to the Government for appointment as trustees. They will hold office until the next local body elections next year. The men nominated are Messrs A. E. P. Kilian, R. D. Robinson, G. A. Rountree and G. B. Trolove.
About 100.000 acres of hill country will also be incorporated in the Ashburton Gorge board and some 20.000 to 30.000 acres in the Whitcombe board.
