TAKE-OVERS’ EFFECTS

Mr Nash Seeks Investigation (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Sept. 15. “I would like the Government to have a look into the effect of take-overs and their effect on the economy,” said the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nash) in the House of Representatives today. Mr Nash mentioned the take-over of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company by Dalgetys and asked what the fanners would think if the concern then took over Wright, Stephenson and Company. “It’s no good talking about competition. That's gone,” said Mr Nash. Mr Nash suggested that a schedule should be prepared showing all take-overs in the last five years and what advantages came from them. “Take-overs are gradually monopolising the activities of the country. It could be very dangerous for the economy. The farmers ought to watch it,” said Mr Nash.
