Pardoned Of i “Theft” (NJUA.-Router—Copyright) | BRISBANE, Sept 4 A British immigrant pardoned on a theft conviction charge will seek £AIOOO compensation from the, Queensland Government. He. is Anthony Francis Cavanagh, aged 31, of Brisbane,’ formerly of Ilford, Essex, i Mr Cavanagh already has, asked for £5O to cover Court and legal expenses. His case lari week was raised in the; Queensland Parliament. ' Mr Cavanagh was convict-, ed on April 15 on a charge of having stolen £lO 9s from j the safe of Lennon's Hotel, Brisbane, at which he was a night porter. He pleaded i guilty, he said, after being; "induced” to do so by detectives. On May 2, the money he allegedly stole was found in the hotel safe. On August ( 24, he was granted a full and' free pardon by the Governor-! in-Councll. In an 8000-word statement last week to the Crown Law Department, Mr Cavanagh i reported everything that happened until the time of his arrest. Yesterday, Mr Cavanagh said he had written to his lawyer asking him how he should ask for £lOOO damages. _____
