Not Starting In A.J.C. Derby IN.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) MELBOURNE, September 4. The Victorian colt, New Statesman, will not make the trip to Sydney for the A.J.C. £lO,OOO Derby. Instead, he will race in Melbourne in preparation for the Victoria Derby. This was decided today by the trainer, B. Courtney, and the part-owner, Mr L. T. Casey. After New S'atesman won the Whittier Handicap (six furlongs) on Saturday Courtney said the colt would be sent to Sydney for the Rosehill Guineas and the A.J.C. Derby. “We have giqen his programme a lot of thought over the week-end and decided today he would* be better off ’in Melbourne *this spring.” Courtney said.
It is planned to give New Statesman his next start in the Moonee Valley John Feehan Handicap on Saturday week. Avondale (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 4.
