NO GRAVE DUG

Family Seeks • Inquiry (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Sept. 3. Five funeral corteges arrived at Waikumete Cemetery in Auckland for burial services yesterday But only four were expected. No grave had been dug for the fifth. This was to have been for an elderly widower in the Berm plot beside where his wife was buried. Relatives had

come from Wellington. Rotorua, and Tokoroa. The casket was held for some time at the sexton’s office. A spokesman for the family said that the mourners were told that no grave had been dug but that they could place the casket on top of the plot and hold the funeral service. This was done and the relatives were told that the burial would take place within a few hours. When they left the casket had been covered with artificial flowers. “It has been very upsetting to us, and we are going to ask for an inquiry," said the spokesman.
