“RING-IN” IN N.S. W.
Owner Put Out (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, August 31. A ring-in at Goodooga (Central New South Wales) led to the disqualification yesterday of a Brewarrina racehorse owner for two years. The owner, Peter Albert Neale, a drover, was charged with improper practices. Neale’s horse, Dawson River, ran second in the Araluen Hack race at Goodooga on August 5. The chief steward, R. Hamilton, thought he recognised both Dawson River and the winner of the race, Mac.
He found that Dawson River was the well-performed registered racehorse Tideless, and Mac was the registered horse Gasmin. The owner of Mac. Allan Maxwell, of Tarcoon, Queensland, was fined £5 at yesterday’s inquiry but It was found that he had no dishonest intent. He was ordered to return £5 prize money to the Goodooga Race Club. Mr Hamilton said Maxwell proved beyond any doubt that he was unaware that he had raced a registered racehorse as Mac. Neale admitted to Mr Hamilton after being charged that Dawson River was the racehorse Tideless.
