U. S. Enlistments Rise Sharply

United States Army .enlistments in the weeks after President Kennedy’s July 25 speech on Berlin jumped 39 per cent, over the comparable period last year. They also increased by almost that much during the period immediately preceding Mr Kennedy’s speech in which he outlined plans for reinforcing the armed forces, the United States Defence Department said yesterday. The Army enlisted 9117 men between August- 1 and August 21 this year.
