Referee Hit Player
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter-Copyright) BRISBANE, August 28. A Rugby league referee, fined £5 and suspended for the rest of the season for punching a player, said yesterday: “I would do it again.” The referee, Mr A. L. Parker, of Texan. Queensland, was found guilty of punching an 18-year-old. llj-stone five-eighth, Gary Cooper. Parker said he cautioned the player for “dirty play” in the match. “He ran past me and said •You’re not much of a referee’,” said Parker. ‘Til see you after the game,” I said. “He said, ‘This is as good a place as any,’ and he let one fly. “But it went over my head —so I hit him on the jaw,” said Parker.
