AVOCAT GENERAL
Mr W. Hazlett Buys Sire “The Press" Special Service INVERCARGILL, Aug. 28. The English-bred horse. Avocat General, has been purchased by Mr W. E. Hazlett for his Chelandry Stud. A royally-bred importation. Avocat General has been at stud in the North Island and the oldest of his stock raced last season as four-year-olds. He has been represented by several winners in both New Zealand and Australia, including Advance General, Nukuatu. Pine Ridge. Miss Halo, Major Barbara, and Gilmour. Avocat General is a son of Court Martial, by Fair Trial, a son of Fairway, one of the most successful sire lines in England today. Cinnamon, the dam of Avocat General, was the dam of seven individual winners, including Star of Baroda, a winner up to two miles and a quarter and now a successful sire. Cinnamon was by Obliterate (son of Tracery) from Buchna, a sister to a noted sire in Mr Standfast and a half-sister to champion sires in Beau Pere and Balloch. This noted line has been extensively represented in New Zealand. Besides the top sires it has produced, several mares of this family have been imported to New Zealand to produce such winners as Sweet Spray (Great Northern Oaks and Derby and New Zealand Oaks). Sweet Nymph (New Zealand Oaks, Great Northern Derby), Hot Drop (New Zealand and Great Northern St. Legers and £18.062 in stakes), and Celebrity (dam of seven winners of £22.507) including Davey Jones (A.J.C. Epsom). Avocat General was purchased as a yearling by the Begum Aga Khan for 4500gns.
