YOUTH WEEK
Programme Has Variety
A dance and jazz jamboree at Canterbury Court, two concerts at the Civic Theatre presented by about 12 youth groups, an open-air combined church service in Latimer square and shop window displays by business firms will mark the first Christchurch youth week to be held from September 11 to September 17. Organised by the Christchurch Junior Council in association with youth groups, the week has been planned to draw the attention of Christchurch young persons to amenities provided by such groups. The official opening will be performed by the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning) at the first concert on September 11. A second concert will be held on September 13. Organisations to take part in the week include the Christchurch Teachers’ College Cultural Club, the Christchurch Young Men's and Young Women’s Christian Associations, the Can-terbui-y Judo Club, the girl guides and boy scouts, the St. John Ambulance Association, the Girls’ Life Brigade, Buckett’s Gymnasium and a specially-formed junior band of young players from brass bands. Members of the youth week organising committee formed by the Junior Council include Mr J. Francis organising secretary; Mr R. Stephens, committee chairman: and Mr G. Perkins, financial secretary.
