Styx Minister Retires
The Rev. Carl Lilly, minister of St. Luke's Presbyterian Church, Styx, for the last five years and a half, was bidden farewell at a special ceremony and social gathering x at the church on Sunday evening. Mr Lilly has retired. Speakers who paid tribute to Mr Lilly and his services to the church during the last 34 years included the moderator of the Christchurch Presbytery (Mr C. C. Wilson), and two district Anglican and Methodist ministers respectively, the Rev. R. A. Carson and the Rev. H. C. Matthews. “I say that it touches a man that his blood is sea water and his tears are salt, that the seed of his loins is scarcely different from the same cells in a seaweed, and that of stuff like his bones is coral made.”—Donald Culross Peattie.
