APPOINTMENT TO T.E.A.L.
Mr Guthrey Writes To Manufacturers
He would have no hesitation in using his appointment to the board of Tasman Empire Airways. Ltd., to further the claim of Christchurch for a jet service. Mr A. R. Guthrey said in a letter received at a meeting last evening of the council of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association. Mr Guthrey was thanking the association for its congratulations on his appointment. He believed a jet service for Christchurch would be in the best interests of New Zealand, he said. ‘1 shall endeavour to see that TE.A.L’s administration is based on the best interests of private enterprise—with as little interference as possible from the State," his letter added. Another letter received last evening dealt with moves to get jet services for the Christchurch airport. The letler. supporting the moves, came from the council of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation. The council had unanimously resolved that, realising the development of New Zealand into the jet age, the federation supported in the interim—“with an eye to the immediate future”—the spending of £ 100.000 to turn the Christchurch airport at once to an airport with jet facilities, the letter added.
