Ashburton Festival Draws Big Entries
Occupying three hal|s in Ashburton, the twenty-sixth ■annual festival of the Ashburton Competitions Society began yesterday. With the record number of 2400 entries this year, the competitions will continue until Friday evening. Next Saturday, a demonstration concert will be staged. All classes in the vocal and instrumental section will be held in the R.S.A concert hall, while the dancing section will be held in the Radiant Theatre. The art of speech section will take place in the Ashburton Technical College assembly hall. The judges are: Vocal and instrumental section, Mr G. Russell -Wells, Cambridge; national dancing, Mrs C. Parker' Wellington; ballet and tap dancing, Miss Pamela Mosen, Wanganui; art of speech, Mrs E. Teward, Wellington.
