Bus Service
Sir,—The letter signed “Last Straw” shows again what is a frequent occurrence. Some time ago I was waiting at a bus stop and a bus, nearly empty, went on. There is a telephone box at this stop, and I immediately telephoned the Transport Board office at the Square, telling them the story, and suggested that the driver of this bus be interviewed on arrival at the Square. I was given the ridiculous answer: “We must have the complaint in writing within 48 hours, otherwise we can do nothing, because the union insists on it.” It is this sort of thing which costs the Labour Party many votes at an election. We are governed by the unions. While on the subject of buses, may I suggest that all buses show a coloured light at night, because it is difficult to distinguish a bus amongst so much motor traffic. Or has this to be referred to the union, too?—Yours, etc., PASSENGER. August 28, 1961.
