HURLEY SHIELD FINAL TODAY

'THE 1961 Hurley Shield x soccer competition will be virtually decided today when two matches are played. Technical will meet Western and Shamrock will meet Rangers. The position in the Hurley Shield points is that Technical and Nomads share the lead with 21 points each. Nomads, however, has completed its programme, while Technical still has today’s match against Western to be played. Should Technical win this match, it will be a clear winner of the Hurley Shield. Even if Technical loses to

Western today, it is most unlikely that Nomads will win the Hurley Shield. If both teams finish with 21 points there will be a count-back on goal averages, and here the advantage will be very much with Technical. Figures so far disclose that Nomads, in 14 matches, have scored 56 goals and conceded 32. Technical, in 13 matches, has scored 57 goals and conceded only 22. Technical would therefore have to lose today's match to Western by at least 10 goals to give Nomads a chance of taking the competition on goal averages.
