Pacific Concert Of China Society
Representatives of four Pacific countries Ceylon, Malaya, Indonesia, and New Zealand—were present at the annual Pacific evening of the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand China Society held in the museum lecture theatre on Thursday. The programme included songs from Malaya, Indonesia, and Ceylon, and songs were also given by a Maori concert party. Mr G. J. McArthur, chairman of the branch, who welcomed members and visitors, said the society was interested in things international, and was not political. "We are all one people,” he said.
“All men are brothers, and we are trying to educate ourselves to be citizens of the world.”
A surprise performance by a Chinese magician. Mr Ming Tack Wong, of Christchurch, was the final item in the programme. Mr Wong finished with a display of fire brands which he extinguished and rekindled in his rnouth.
