Profit Of £1835 Very large fields had competed at all the Ashburton Trotting Club's meetings, the president (Mr A. J. Nicoll) said in his report to be presented to the annual meeting on Monday. The club had experienced a most successful season with fine weather on all four days, although heavy rain the night before the second day of the winter meeting had caused bad track conditions. Attendances had been very well maintained and the MidCanterbury Owners’ and Breeders' Association had held four very successful matinee meetings on the track.
“Improvements completed during the year included 16 new horse stalls and three new race patrol stands. Tracks, grounds and buildings have been well maintained. The farming operations in partnership with the racing club are progressing successfully and have resulted in a profit of £8,04 for the year,” the report said. “Financially, the year has been profitable, the profit being £1835 14s lOd after allowing for depreciation amounting to £1558 Ils Id and a taxation provision of £567 Is 2d. Stakes totalled £19,775 as against £19,175 last year. Totalisator turnover on course was £238,567 10s compared with £248.537 10s last year and off course £170,043 compared with £146,633 15s. The Government received £38,582 18s 9d in taxes,” the report said. As nominations for officers did not exceed the required number, officers elected were: president, Mr A. J. Nicoll; vice-presidents, Messrs M. S. Turton, J. Cocks; treasurer, Mr A. A. McDonald; committee, Messrs R. L. Lindsay, W. E. Lowe, G. H. Nicoll; stewards, Messrs K. M. Baxter, A. M. Bruce, D. M. Bruce, R. J. Bruce, T. W. Gudsell, A. Henderson. R. L. Lindsay, F. I. Lowe, W. E. Lowe, G. H. Nicoll, V. C. North, N. Robilliard. V. W. Russell, Dr. W. G. Todd.
