Clearance Of City Site

With the assurance of Government loan finance for its housing reclamation scheme in Conference street and Salisbury street, the City Council is going ahead with the clearance of the area of houses it has already bought, and is negotiating to buy the other properties in the area. Four houses in the block, which has an area of about three acres and a half, are now being demolished. Three of them are in Conference street The council has already cleared some of the property it bought earlier. Sixteen properties have still to be acquired by the council. Twelve of them contain dwellings. Negotiations have now begun for their purchase. The area chosen by the council was inspected by the Minister of Housing ’ (Mr Rae) recently, after which jhe Cabinet agreed to a Government loan of up to £50.000 to enable the council to acquire properties and a further sum of about £392.700 for the rebuilding of the area in moderate-sized fiats.

The council has accepted the offer of the loans, which are for 35 years.
