SMART YOUNGSTERS AT TAKANINI
"The Press” Special Service
AUCKLAND, August 22. Young horses being pre- ! pared by the local trainer, R. J. Wallace, dominated the events for two-year-olds at barrier trials conducted by the Auckland Racing Club at Takanini today. Ten took part in the five races and four won: The winners from Wallace’s team were Winunera King, Earl Gabador, a colt by Alpenhorn from Nizam’s Belle and a filly by Khorassan from Cylinder. In addition, Red Hot, Gold Chick, Kudaitcha and a colt by Alpenhorn from Whinyard from the same stable ran either second or third. In the remaining two-year-old heat, Kahadija, a black filly by The Cobbler from Noor Begum, being prepared by F. and G. W. Smith, was successful. Fastest Two Wimmera King made the quickest time, going two furlongs and a half from the starting gates in 31 l-ssec, which was a fair gallop taking into account a head wind which at times blew in fierce gusts.
The times recorded by the other winners were 31 3-ssec (Kahadija), 31 3-ssec (Alpenhorn—Nizam’s Belle Colt), 33sec (Khorassan Clynder filly) and 32 l-ssec (Earl Gabador).
Wimmara King is a bay colt, with size and speed, by Fair’s Fair from Gay Rosina and a close relative of Somerset Fair. A quick beginning gained him the better of
eight which opposed him, and he won his heat handily by a length from Red Hot. Earl Gabador, a black colt by Gabador from Polotown, which carries the same colours as Wimmera King—those of Mr B. A. L. Millen—had a good tussle with Mali Peter before he won the fifth heat. The other six which took part were beaten off. The Khorassan Clynder filly, which is owned by her trainer, just shaded Hearth Money (a filly by Sabaean from Flue) and Kudaitoha in the fourth heat, one reserved for fillies. The Alpenhorn Nizam’s Belle colt, being raced by Messrs H. Chin and D. C. Lee, had quite the easiest win in any event when he ran right away from seven others in the third heat. His management of the starting gates and ability to strike top speed straight away became a colt of high promise and took him to the finish seven lengths clear of Count One and the colt by Alpenhorn from Whinyard. Kahadija, one of a first crop of two-year-olds from the new stallion, The Cobbler, collected the second heat by a head from Joytax, a filly by another firsrt-season sire, Syntax, from Joy Rose. Kahadija is one of four two-year-olds being prepared by the Smiths for the Rotorua owner, Mr M. F. Khan.
