RECEIPTS OF £29,522
Record Takings At Park The gate takings of £29,522 for the third Rugby test between France and New Zealand at Lancaster Park last Saturday were a record for the ground, the chairman (Mr H. C. Blazey) told the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening. The total was £1257 more than for the test against the British Isles in 1959.
Mr Blazey said that the attendance was 55,200. The gates were thrown open to the public at 2.25 p.m., and it was not known how many others entered the embrankment. The bank was fairly well filled, but there were occasional pockets which could have been filled more. Spectators on the bank were about 3000 fewer than for the 1959 test. The rush for places on the bank was over within half an hour of the gates being opened, Mr Blazey said. The crowd at the entrances had mainly disappeared. It was possible to' fill the ground within an hour and a quarter. Mr Blazey praised the crowd which, he said was orderly and patient. “It was a sporting crowd, too, and I think we should express our appreciation for its co-opera-tion.”
