Survey Around Chathams

(From OUr Own Reporter! WELLINGTON. August 22. The Minister of Marine (Mr McAlpine) was asked in Parliament this afternoon whether he would have action taken to complete an up-to-date survey of the waters surrounding the Chatham Islands-

Mr N. E. Kirk (Opposition, Lyttelton), who asked the question, said the charts at present used by shipping in the area had been drawn up on information obtained by Lieutenant Fournier in 1840, and the last alterations had been made in 1927. Many areas on the charts were completely unsurveyed, and the information about some other areas was marked as “doubtful.”
