Vehicle Climbs Mt. Ruapehu

"The Press” Special Service THE CHATEAU, Aug. 20. The first ascent of Mount Ruapehu by motor-vehicle was achieved recently when Mr T. W. Bates, of Auckland, drove his "snowUxis" to the rim at the crater lake.

Fifteen passengers made the trip from the top of the second chairlift (6520 ft to the run of the crater at 8660 ft. The "snowbus.'’ which has number plates, is named the “Whakapapaka,” after the glacier on which it operates. The "Whakapepeka” has become overnight one of Hie major attractions of Mount Ruapehu.
