SCHOLARSHIP IN AGRICULTURE

Lincoln Man Wins Shell Award Mr C. T. Dougherty, of Canterbury Agricultural College. and Mr J. A. Stewart, of Massey Agricultural College. are this year’s winners o' Shell agricultural scholarships. The awards are each valued at £2OO and are offered to help graduates to study for a master's degree. Mr Dougherty attended the Christchurch West High School where he was a member of the first fifteen for three years. After an intermediate year at the

University of Canterbury, he entered Canterbury Agricultural College in 1958 and recently graduated bachelor of agricultural science. In 1960 Mr Dougherty was awarded the Sir James G. Wilson prize in agriculture and this year be was senior scholar in agriculture. For his master’s degree he is studying plant physiology, with special attention to growth in pasture species. Mr Stewart, whose home is in Geelong, Australia, spent a year at the University of Melbourne before coming to New Zealand to continue his studies at Massey Agricultural College, where he graduated bachelor of agricultural science. This year he is doing master’s studies in animal husbandry, with the intention of taking up agricultural advisory work.
