PROGRESS WITH MANGERE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.—A recent aerial photograph showing the present state of the work. About 160 acres has been sealed off from the sea, and about 2,000,000 cubic yards of spoil has been cut from the landward side of the airport and placed in the reclamation, which extends 5000 ft from the shore on its southern side and 4000 ft on the northern. Its surface will be between 12ft and 13ft above the tidal flats. The runway pavement, of concrete on a compacted scoria foundation, will add another 3ft 6in of height. It is hoped to be able to hand over to the paving contractor in January.
