CURRENT NOTES
Cocktail Party.—More than 50 guests attended a cocktail party given by the Canterbury Pilgrims and Early Settlers’ Association in Christchurch last evening. An annual event at race week in Christchurch, the party is held so that country members can meet city members. Mr W. Deans, the president, received the guests. Members of the organising committee were Messrs Deans (chairman), H. Hall (secretary), J. Bradley and A. Barker. Riccarton Townswomen.— Guests of honour were presented with wooden spoons and pegs at the recent fifth birthday party of the Riccarton Townswomen's Guild. Decorated clothes pegs held the candles on the birthday cake. Mrs H. R. Warren presided and welcomed Mrs R. H. Smith (Dominion federation), Mrs F. Pheloung (Christchurch area federation), and representatives of sister guilds. Mrs Smith lit the candles on the cake, which was cut by Mrs Pheloung. Sketches were presented by the drama circle. The choir gave items. It was conducted by Mrs Warren and accompanied by Mrs H. R. Riches. Miss R. Crawford gave piano solos and accompanied community singing.
