MACHINE. HAND WORK

Charges Compared

Comparison between the cost of machine and hand work was shown when the Paparua County Council called tenders recently for cleaning water races. The county engineer (Mr A. Dyhrberg) said tenders for machine cleaning were 5s and 5s 6d a chain for main races, and 4s fid and 4s 9d a chain for secondary races. The price tendered by a hand cleaning gang was 22s fid a chain for main races, and 10s fid a chain for secondary races. ■‘This quote provides a very significant comparison between the cost of machine work and hand work on today’s rates," said Mr Dyhrberg.
