HUNT BALL
Pretty Setting For Frocks
A pink and white springtime theme made a pretty setting for the lovely frocking of the women guests at the Christchurch Hunt Ball at the Winter Garden last evening.
In the foyer and lounge spreading branches of pink and white camellias, pussy willow and japonica were arranged in tall vases and given a hint of spring perfume by clusters of pink and white stock. At the entrance to the cabaret, banks of cyclamen, variegated plants and imitation poinsettias made a spectacular floral welcome. In the ball room the same floral theme was dominated by a hunting frieze across one wall. Mounds and horses were depicted in black silhouette and painted hunting pink coats of the huntsmen made an effective foil to the scene. The frieze was the work of the wife of the master of the Christchurch Hunt Club (Mr D. C. Gould) who received the guests with the secretary (Mr R. W. Nurse) and Mrs Nurse. Mrs Nurse chose a dusky rose pink gown of nylon chiffon. Floor-length with a very full skirt, it featured a swathed bodice framed at the shoulder-line with a stole of the same material. Specially-invited guests included Mr and Mrs F. T. H Bell, and masters of the following Hunt Clubs, Pakuranga, Brackenfield, Otago, Waimate. Ashburton, and South Canterbury. Members of the ball committee were: Mesdames F. S Wilding, C. Austin, D. C Gould. I. Gillanders, J. Montgomery and D. M. Lamb, Misses H. Bedford and S. M, Grigg, Messrs R W. Nurse (secretatry), C. Austin, D. C. Gould, and I. Gillanders.
