Temuka Stock Sale
"The Press’’ Special Service TIMARU, August 8. A yarding of 1550 fat sheep, including many pens of quality ewes and wethers, met a firm demand throughout the Temuka sale today, and sound values .were realised. The 1270 store sheep offered, comprising mainly breeding ewes, also met a very keen demand, and an excellent sale resulted. A total of M of fat cattle, mostly heifers and cows, came forward. Competition here was also keen, and values improved slightly on late rates. A smaller-than-usual yarding of pigs sold fully up to late rates. Range of Values Fat Sheep.—Wethers: prime 77s Id to 87s Id: light to medium, 48s Id to 68s Id. Ewes: prime. 42s Id to SOs: light to medium 24s Id to 32s Id. Store Sheep —Shorn ewe hoggets: to 46s Bd. Shorn wether hoggets: to 48s. Ewe hoggets (woolly): to 555. Full and fail-ing-mouth ewes: 43s to 60s 6d Two and three-shear ewes: to 735. Ewes and lambs (shorn): to 225. Fat Cattle.—Steers: prime. £42 2s 6d to £5l 17s 6d; light to medium, £2B 2s 6d to £36 17s 6d. Heifers: prime. £3B 2s 6d to £42 12s 6d; light to medium. £25 2s 6d to £32 12s 6d. Cows: prime, £3l 2s 6d to £34 17s 6d; light to medium. £22 2s 6d to £27 2s 6d. Pigs.—Weaners: 63s to 87s. Porkers: £7 5s to £lO. Baconers: to £lO 10s. Stores: £5 6s to £6 ss.
