Lyn Leigh For Second Leg

Lyn Leigh will have solid backing in the Levels Hack Handicap, the second leg of the double at Washdyke on Saturday. She will be one of the popular fancies after a runaway win against hack milers on the same course last Saturday week.

Lyn Leigh is now trained at Waikouaiti by R. W. Bromby and has been thriving on a course of beach work.

It she has continued a steady programme on the beach since her win she could have the edge on most if not all her rivals, which have had training programmes interrupted because of waterlogged tracks in the last few days. Lyn Leigh has drawn No. 4 at the six furlongs and has the early speed to capitalise on s ich a good position. Archway, top-weight with 9-13, could do no better than third under that weight and in a weaker field at Waimate last Saturday but, having won at Washdyke the week before, he is one of the stronger form runners. /

Recent racing at Washdyke and Waimate points to sound runs from Knight, Buckshot, Interlaken. Kent and Anouk. Interlaken won against maidens over six furlongs at Washdyke on July 1. The Gore-trained Anouk won a maiden race easily at Waimate and shaped as if lie would make the grade without much bother in stronger class. Buckshot and Kent both recorded seconds at Waimate. Buckshot's placing behind Orderly was probably the more impressive. PROBLEM HORSES The problem horses of this field are Wandering Willie and Lola.

Wandering Willie has not raced since last season when he won three races, two of them in one day at Waimate He has had an enforced absence from racing for more thsn a year but cculd have been fitted to last out six furlongs fresh up Lola’s last race was in January when she was unplaced at Kurow. This Orari-trained Alonzo mare had six races in the first half of the season. Her best was a second, half a head behind Abou Ben Adihem, over six furlongs at Ashburton in November. If she is fit to run within a few pounds of that form she will take beating on Saturday.
