SIXTY YEARS MARRIED
Mr And Mrs J. C. Mann Mr and Mrs J, C. Mann, formerly well-known residents of Oxford and now of Highsted road, Christchurch, will celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary today. Mr Mann is the youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs John Mann, who landed at Port Robinson in 1859 in a wool schooner and took up land at Oxford a year later. Mr J. C. Mann farmed his father's property until he retired about 10 years ago. For many years he was an enthusiastic exhibitor of Shorthorn cattle and draught horses at local agricultural and pastoral shows. He was a keen sportsman when young, and was an excellent shot On July 18, 1901. he married Mias Alice Maud Powell, daughter of die late Mr and Mrs Lewis PowelL of Powells road, Oxford, at the Oxford Roman Catholic Church. They had a family of five sons and one daughter, and now have 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchild-ren. Welfare Work Mrs Mann was well known throughout Oxford for her generosity and helpfulness to the sick and needy in the district. She was a keen church worker and was a committee member of local branches of the Red Cross Society, the Plunket Society, the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers, the Oxford Garden dub. and the Oxford Hospital Committee. She also gave untiring service to patriotic organisations in the First and Second World Wars. Because of recent illhealth, Mr and Mrs Mann are living with their son, Mr Jack Mann. Highsted road, and Mrs Mann. Their other sons are Messrs Ken Mann (Ashburtonh Charles Mann (Oxford), Jo Mann (Kati Kati), and Patrick Mann (Mangakino). Their daughter was the late Mrs Nancv White.
