Sixth Lincoln Student For Post In Australia

Another former student of Canterbury Agricultural College is to go to Western Australia as an adviser to a farm advisory service. He is Mr P. M. Falconer, who is an adviser to the Lauriston Farm Improvement Club in Mid-Canterbury. Mr Falconer will become adviser to the Wongan-Ballidu farm advisory service, a new group about 120 miles north of Perth. Mr Falconer is the sixth former Lincoln student to go to a similar position in Australia. Other Lincoln men who are with farm advisory services or clubs in Australia are Messrs A. Knox, who preceded Mr Falconer at Lauriston. P. McSkimming R. Stockdill, E. W. Nuttall and A. G. McOran-Campbell All gained diplomas in rural valuation and farm management at Lincoln and several also took diplomas in agriculture.

Mr Falconer will work in an area about 45 miles square with a 15in rainfall, mere will be 35 farms in the group ? TO^ ies ran S’ n g from 1000 to 8000 acres. Cereals, wool, baby beef, fat lambs, and pigs are the main products.

When he leaves, Mr Falconer wiU have been adviser to the Lauriston club for nearly three years. Born in Dunedin, Mr Falconer worked on sheep farms in Central Otago before he went to Canterbury Agricultural College, where he gained diplomas in valuation and farm management and agriculture. He was a gold medallist in each course. Subsequently he was head shepherd on a sheep station in west Otago for two years and manager of a sheep station near Blenheim for two years before joining the staff of the college. Mr Falconer expects to take up his new appointment early next year. For up to three months he will attend ? ct ”S se at Perth University before beginning his duties.
