Nostradamus Wins Wanganui Steeples

WANGANUI, July 16. Nostradamus gained a reward for his consistency and justified his favouritism when he won the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Club Steeplechase by a wide margin on Saturday. The locally-trained Good Samaritan gave his opponents no chance of catching him in the feature flat race, the Dr. Simmons Memorial Handicap. He drew out to beat the favourite. Lady Be Fair, by three lengths after leading from barrier rise. Gold Coral, which had been unplaced in 10 starts since winning at the Carterton meeting 11 months ago, completed the T.A.B. double with Good Samaritan when he finished too strongly for Royal Ransom and Bonne Valeur In the Patea Hack Handicap. The double dividend for £1 was £328 9s. The totalisator on-course handled £31,251, compared with £29,403 10s last year, an increase of £1847 10s.
