BEACH SOCCER TOMORROW
Inter-Club Game At Waimairi
Playing a variety of sports on the beach during winter is proving an excellent way for surf clubs to keep in touch with each other during the off-season. This link will be strengthened tomorrow when the Waimairi and Taylor’s Mistake clubs play their annual soccer match at Waimairi. This is the fourth year the fixture has been held. Waimairi has won the three previous encounters and so holds a shield given by Taylor’s Mistake. It was fashioned -from a side of a surf wheel drum. The games are played strictly to the rules. Both teams will have about three or four regular club soccer players. The captain of the Waimairi side is I. Graham, a former Canterbury representative. Mr L. Tointon, a well-known Canterbury referee, will control the match. An innovation will be a basketball match on the beach between, girl members of the two dubs before the soccer match, Beach Rugby also figures largely in surf ckubs’ offseason calendar. Waimairi has already played South Brighton and will plaj North Beach on August 6.
