INSPECTION OF A.T.C. UNITS
South Island Tour
The annual inspection of all the South Island’s Air Training Corps quadrons by the officer commanding the Southern Area Office (Squadron Leader L. A. R. Hill) will begin on Monday when he arrives at Timaru. - Soon after August 16, when the major centres will have been visited, the best unit will be chosen to compete for the A.T.C. Air Efficiency Trophy against its corresponding unit in the North Island. The trophy is held by Petone. Squadron Leader Hill will visit Oamaru, Invercargill, Gore (where he will attend the official opening of a new squadron), Dunedin, Ashburaon. Nelson. Motueka, Blenheim, Greymouth, and Westport. Three of the best all-round cadets have been selected to go on flights overseas during the school holidays in August. One will visit Singapore and two Fiji. One of those to visit Fiji is a Christchurch cadet. Warrant Officer G. Tapper, of No. 18 Squadron.
During the holidays two cadets in the South Island will be selected for flying scholarships. They will train to solo standard in Auster aircraft at the R.N.Z.A.F. Station, Wigram.
