Unlicensed Radios
Sir, —I don’t think any fairminded person would sympathise with those who are caught with unlicensed radios. These people are enjoying radio programmes which are being paid for by others. I cannot understand why. from time to time, announcements are made as to which area the inspectors are about to visit. Dozens of small radios could be hidden during the day until a further announcement is made as to the next area to be visited. I would suggest that inspectors be employed on Saturday. Payment of overtime would be recovered many times over.—Yours, etc., FAIR PLAY. [The divisional engineer of the Chief Post Office (Mr D. M. McFarlane) said: While it is appreciated that some people may take advantage of prior notification of inspectors’ activities, there are valid reasons for making this information available. The results of the inspections are being carefully observed. Saturday and evening inspections are being carried out from time to time.”]
