MAORI WELFARE LEAGUE

Women To Meet In Hamilton

About 400 Maori women will meet in Hamilton for the Dominion conference of the Maori Women’s Welfare Teague from July 24 to July 29. A city was chosen for the conference, which is both interdenominational and nonpoliticaL to free the hostess tribes from billeting duties and so give more time for discussion. The subjects for discussion will include education, housing and welfare, and Maori culture. The Minister of Maori Affairs (Mr Hanan) will attend the opening and address the conference.

Other speakers will include the Bishop of Aotearoa (Bishop Panapa), the Mayor of Hamilton (Dr. D. Rogers), the member of Parliament for Hamilton (Mr L. R. Adams-Schneider), the Secretary of Maori Affairs (Mr J. K. Hunn). the Dominion president of the league (Mrs Maata Hirini), and Dr. Rina Moore.
